Twitterducing: DA SHIBBERING CHEETOS!

A #bullDogNATION Radio Special Presentation:

The Shibbering Cheetos. Who are they? What are they? Are they simply the rockin’est hard rock band to hit Twitter, #bullDogNATION– indeed, the WORLD since The Beatles? Or are they just a bunch of quaking, more orange-than-Boehner, half-baked puffs of light and airy corn on a fast track towards one-hit-twonderdom?

Welcome to #bullDogNATION Radio. I’m ThatOne.

Joining me today in the studio are my special guests, Da Shibbering Cheetos.

Twitterducing @mattiedog, a tiny, golden colored purebred Shih Tzu with a mouth almost as big as his heart, the @trailerparkdogs, Coco, a boxer/bull terrier mutt, and Goose, a stubby, but tenacious little Jack Russell Terrier.

And then there’s @brutusthedane, a big brute of a brindle purebred Great Dane, with a poop signature rivaled only by King Kong’s footprint.

Together they are known collectively as Da Shibbering Cheetos

Thanks for being with us in the studio, fellas…

SC: Thanks for the invite, That. Happy to be here.

#bDN:  OK, so lemme just get this out of the way– Why ‘Shibbering Cheetos,’ I mean, what’s up wit That?

(Soundbite of laughter)

SC: We got the name Da Shibbering Cheetos because our lead singer, @Mattiedog likes to wear this little orange sweater.

#bDN: Like a favorite wornout tee shirt or…

SC: Somethin’ like that. One day, when we was all up at his cabin together, he was dressed in this orange sweater and was all cold and shivering.

@Trailerparkdogs and @Brutusthedane said, “Mattiedog, you look like a cold, shiverin’, bite’a orange Cheeto.” And @Mattiedog piped up like he always do: “I be a shibbering Cheeto!” and da rest is history!

(Soundbite of laughter)

#bDN: Ah ha, so which of you is the biggest Cheetos eater, then?

SC: We all nom Cheetos because they are nummy. We like bacon, cupcakes and apples, too! Anything except broccoli… bluck!

Of course @Brutusthedane is the biggest Cheetos eater. He’s the biggest everything! (laughter) Sometimes we have to play extra gigs just to afford to feed @Brutusthedane! He’s a healthy eater.

#bDN: Is it true you’re the world’s only Twitter band? That’s kinda stunning.

SC: Yes, it’s true! Da SC is the only band that met, organized, plays– everything, on Twitter!

Most band members meet when they are in school or they form garage bands and stuff, but since we all came from animal shelters and none of us went to school…

#bDN: Not even obedience school?

SC: Well, some of us had some obedience training, but as far as the music goes, we had to work hard to become good solo musicians. When we met on Twitter it was magical. Our groove and our pawsonalities just meshed together. Our individual dedication and practicing paid off!

#bDN: Will you be posting any more of your performances on Youtube?

SC: We do plan on performing more on YouTube. We have a promo video and plan on branching out.

#bDN: You all started your musical careers as solo acts…

SC: We were passing the time barking, braying, howling, playing our instruments in the animal shelters, waiting to get adopted.

#bDN: Sort’a like Elvis in Jailhouse Rock…

SC: Yeah, exactly! Well, maybe not exactly…

(Soundbite of laughter)

#bDN: @Mattiedog, you’re the lead singer and lead guitarist in the group. You’re a classically trained musician, you rebelled against your pedigree. You grew your fur long and embraced the culture of hard rock.

@Mattiedog: Rock music allows me to express myself more freely. There’s a certain abandon in rock. It’s freeing.

#bDN: Like Jimi Hendriks, your idol, you like to regale your audience sometimes by playing your guitar with your teeth! I’d pay to see that. BOL! Can you tell us a little more about your backgrounds musically?

@Trailerparkdogs: Well, Coco used to pound on the kennel bars at the shelter with his paws, at the same time perfecting his skills on the keyboard. Goose often.., he would bang on the kennel with rawhide sticks in his mouth. That’s why he’s so good on the drums.

#bDN: @Brutusthedane, you play bass guitar. How come That seems like a no-brainer?

@brutusthedane: The other dogs in the shelter used to make fun of me because I’m so big. I had to work extra hard to develop my playing ’cause’a these big mitts’a mine.

#bDN: You sure do play a mean bass, @brutusthedane… You’ve earned respect from peers in the industry…

@brutusthedane: I get by with a little help from my friends. I mean, these guys right here are like family to me… I’m feelin’ alright now.

(Soundbite of laughter)

@brutusthedane: Sometimes I embelish my riffs with some’a my special fart flourishes.

SC: Yeah, our audience *really* lub that! It drives ’em wild…

@Mattiedog: And up outta those chairs and onto the dance floor!

@brutusthedane: No other band on Twitter or anywhere else for that matter does fart flourishes. We carved out a little niche for ourselves with that.

(Soundbite of laughter)

#bDN: Think you gonna trademark it?

(Soundbite of laughter)

#bDN: Do any of you read music or do you all play by ear?

SC: None of us read music because we are dogs, but like all dogs we have an excellent ear for sound, and exceptional hearing so we play by ear.  We all worked really hard and it paid off because we all got adopted to good homes by practicing and getting attention. You know how it is, That. You do something unique; something new and novel, People notice. (laughter) Now we all have families who love us and let us play in the band.

#bDN: Do you like having to practice and rehearse?

SC: Oh yes! When you really want to become good at something you do have to practice– practice– practice… and we do! But we also keep it fun and sometimes invite others to play along with us so that we are always mixing things up. We practice every day.

#bDN: Every day???

SC: Every day, and we always bear in mind that we are working hard to be our best!

#bDN: You’re all musicians, all creative types. You work closely together, often for many long hours. You’re on the road on a bus touring. Close quarters. There are gonna be times when things don’t always run smooth. You can’t always have things go your way. Sometimes one of you may be in a bad mood. What happens when there are disagreements? What do you do then?

SC: Dogs are very sociable animals. We love each other and play together well. But we do have disagreements. Everybody does. It’s normal. We will growl a little, bark at each other a little. But because we genuinely care about each other, we usually end up pouncing and wagging our tails, and then all will be forgiven and forgotten.

#bDN: So no major drama?

SC: We’re still here and we’re still friends. We want things to stay that way so we don’t let anything get in the way of our music, our band, or our friendship.

#bDN: @Mattiedog, how did you become the leader? How’d that come about?

SC: Mattiedog is a showboat, that’s how he became the leader! It’s funny, he’s the smallest one of the group, but he’s all entertainer! At night he dresses up in his rock star gear and dances in front of a mirror, perfecting his dance steps to impress our fans!

#bDN: How long has the band been in existence? How long have you guys been playing together?

SC: Oh, well, we’ve all known about one another for a while, but we’ve only been playing together, officially as Da Shibbering Cheetos for about a year.

#bDN: Who are your musical influences? Favorite musicians? Styles of music? I really like your music choices when you’re spinnin’, @Mattiedog.

SC: Thanks, That! We lub all kinds of music! We dig hip-hop, funk, and rock. Our music is the kind that, when heard, makes you jump out of your chair and shake your body all around! Music really moves us!

#bDN: So are you mostly a cover band or do you perform original material as well?

SC: We are working on our own music. We hope to have something out soon!

#bDN: Who among you is Paul McCartney or John Lennon?

(Soundbite of laughter)

SC: That’s the @Trailerparkdogs, handsome and cute! @Brutusthedane is the doggy version of Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones @Mattiedog is doggy Eddie Van Halen.

#bDN: Not a Snoop Dogg in the bunch, eh?

(Soundbite of laughter)

#bDN: Do you have a songbook? Have you produced a CD? Would you like to?

SC: Yep! We are working on it!!

#bDN: Da Shibbering Cheetos is not just a bunch’a bacon beer guzzling guys with air quality issues. No band would be complete without beautiful and talented back-up singers. Da Shibbering Cheetos is no exception. We’ll meet the ladies behind these talented musicians after the break.

I’m ThatOne and This is #bullDogNATION Radio.

(cue half time music)

For #bullDogNATION Radio, I’m ThatOne.  And we’re back  in the studio Twitterducing Da Cheetoettes! Ladies, so good of you to join us…

Cheetoettes: Nice to be here, That. You know we don’t let these dogs leave home without us

@Niqqi: Yeah, we gotta keep a close eye on them!

(Soundbite of laughter)

#bDN: Twitterducing the voices behind the Shibbering Cheetos, Da Cheetoettes.

@MissBusyBiz, a Pure bred Bichon, knows how to shake it and owns the amazing “girls only” trailer. All the ladies hang out there. Missie knows how to shake that tamborine!

Her assistant, @Niqqi, also a bichon frise, describes herself as adventurous, smart, and absolutely lovely. @Niqqi helps keep the boys in line.

Daffy of @no_crybaby_dogs knows all the right moves and brandishes a mean strawberry twizzler. She’s a 4 year old Toy Fox Terrier Rescue, who describes herself as being scared of most everything. She keeps the band on its paws!

Daffy: But I do chase storms!

(Soundbite of laughter)

#bDN: Hold that thought, Daffy, okay? I’ll have to get with my producers. That sounds like something we could talk about on a future show. I’m excited you’re all here, so lemme… I wanna hear– How did you gals hook up with these wild men?

Cheetoetts: The outfits. (laughter) We saw Da Shibbering Cheetos outfits and knew we had to get in that band! We know these boys from waaaaay back when they were just practicing in their Twitter basements, so it was a natural fit!

#bDN: Is it hard being girls traveling around with a bunch’a guys?

Cheetoettes: We have our own all-girl trailer, filled with flowers, mineral water and healthy snacks. We are free from their stinky toots and belches, yuck!

(Soundbite of laughter)

#bDN: Do any of you sing or play instruments?

Cheetoettes: We play tamborine, maracas.., occasionally the symbols,

#bDN: What? No cowbell? I gotta have me some cowbell!

(Soundbite of laughter)

Cheetoettes: …and we make sure that they… the boys are always respectful of the ladies in the crowd.

#bDN: Is it hard work being a Shibbering Cheetoette?

Cheetoettes: Oh, sometimes it is hard work, always traveling in our tour bus, going from one gig to another.

#bDN: Do you have to do a lot of reading and memorizing? Do you feel like giving up sometimes when it’s hard? And when that happens, what keeps you going?

Cheetoettes: We have to type and make changes to the set list, write pee-mails to our fans, practice our music, memorize our music selections- it gets real hard. When we feel like giving up we remember we are a family and that we lub each other and that nothing comes easy… so we keep trying and trying, and tickle each other to relieve stress! Getting treats help too!

#bDN: The majority of Shibbering Cheetos appearances support charity or are fundraising events. Their record of service in the anipal community worldwide is legendary. Their headlining an event guarantees ticket sales and attendance.

This has earned the group the coveted distinction of being the official band of #Pawpawty, an organization established in 2009 in the UK that raises money and awareness for animal rescues, shelters and non-profit organizations all over the globe.

The organization, founded by @frugaldougal, has raised over $32,000 US dollars for animal non-profits worldwide.

#bDN: How did the alliance with #pawpawty come about?

SC: Oh, we are so lucky! We really respect everything that FrugalDougal does for #pawpawty and we have all been involved in these events in one way or another. So we asked if we could play at a #pawpawty because we support animals and animal charities, and now, viola (and after a lot of practice) we are their house band.

#bDN: That must really keep you busy. Now, talk a little bit about the tour bus?

SC: Our Tour Bus is a virtual image created by an artist. It looks real and it takes us all over Twitterville. Isn’t it beautiful?

#bDN: It’s great! TERI, Inc. (Training, Education & Research Institute) is a private, non-profit agency serving the needs of children and adults with autism and other developmental and learning disabilities, and their families. Would you consider an appearance to raise money for something like that? That’s not an animal charity…

SC: We would lub to help out! We’re some familiar with the two schools there. Maybe a Tweet Up? Maybe that is an option. We’d have to see where we might be able to fit something in as we tour in 2010!

#bDN: A Tweetup. Hmmm… Uh, How do you book your gigs? Is Mattiedog the manager of the band as well?

SC: No, we have a fabulous agent, @HankTheDoggy. He handles lots of celebrities, but we are clearly his most important client. It is amazing to watch him do business using his iBone. He is also our good friend.

#bDN: Mmmm… I would like to thank my guests, Da Shibbering Cheetos and Da Cheetoettes for coming to our studio and talking with us today.

SC: Great fun. Enjoyed it.

Cheetoes: Thank you for having us and for letting everyone know about @Frugaldougal and #Pawpawty

#bDN: You guys were.., you are great. Thanks for being with us. And thank you all for listening. This is ThatOne for #bullDogNATION Radio.
